Rock Valley, IA: William 'Bud' Termaat, 86, of Rock Valley, died Monday, July 15, 2013 at the Hegg Memorial Hospital, following a long battle with prostate cancer. A funeral service will be at 10:30 am, Thursday, July 18, 2013 at the First Christian Reformed Church, Rock Valley with Rev. Carl Klompien officiating. Burial will follow at the Valley View Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 6-8 pm Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.porterfuneralhomes.com. William 'Bud' was born March 8, 1927 on the family farm south of Rock Rapids, Iowa, son of Willem and Hendrika (Wallenburg) Termaat. He attended country school in Lyon County through 8th grade and graduated from Western Christian High School in 1944. In 1943 he moved to Doon with his father and two sisters. After graduation, he and his father farmed land north of Doon and later he began farming land by Rock Valley on his own.
In 1949 he married Florence De Wit near Hull, Iowa. They lived north of Rock Valley for two years and in 1951 moved to a farm west of Rock Valley until 2007 when they moved to a home in Rock Valley. Bud attended the First Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley, where he had served as elder and deacon. He also had served on boards at Rock Valley Christian School, Western Christian School, and Hegg Memorial Hospital. Bud enjoyed gardening and working puzzles in the paper, but most of all, spending time with family.
Bud is survived by his wife of 64 years, Florence; two daughters, Anita Termaat of Escondido, CA, Rhonda (Ted) Triezenberg of Rock Valley; son, Bill (Jayne) Termaat of Sioux Falls, SD; five grandchildren, Joni (Tim) De Jong, Barry (Jill) Termaat, Abby (Jason) De Groot, Dana (Nate) Isder, and Rob Termaat; nine great-grandchildren, Taylor, Maddi, Easton, and Jaxton De Jong, Ella and William 'Liam' Termaat, Harper and Reese De Groot, and Grace Isder; two sisters, Tillie Bork of Luverne, MN, and Evelyn Huisman of Holland, MI; sister-in-law, Lenora De Wit of Rock Valley. He was preceded in death by infant daughter, Jolyn Fayth; parents, Willem and Hendrika; brother, Jack Termaat; sisters, Christine Van Tol, Winnie Visser, Coba Mulder, Gertrude Van Engen, Henrietta Oostra.
