Inwood, IA: Wilbert "Bud" Van Hill, 86, of Inwood, died Saturday, August 17, 2013. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at the Christian Reformed Church at Inwood. Burial will follow at Richland Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 6-8 p.m. Monday, August 19, 2013 at the Christian Reformed Church. Porter Funeral Home of Inwood in charge of arrangements.
Wilbert "Bud" was born October 17, 1926 on the family farm near Rock Rapids, Iowa, son of Gilbert and Christina (Wallenburg) Van Hill. Bud married Geneva De Jongh on March 28, 1947 at Steen, Minnesota. They first farmed by the Lakewood Corner south of Rock Rapids before moving to Alvord and owned Bud Van Hill Trucking. In 1962 the family moved to Sioux Falls where Bud became a commission salesman at the Sioux Falls Stockyards. In 1972 they returned to Alvord where Bud and his sons owned Van Hill Trucking. Bud retired from trucking in 1977 and they moved to Inwood where they became the custodians of the Inwood Christian Reformed Church for the next 13 years. Bud and Geneva were able to enjoy 7 winters at Weslaco, Texas. Bud also enjoyed riding horse, fishing, music, and camping.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Geneva; children, Pam (Les) Vander Lugt of Orange City, Iowa, Marlyn (Carla) Van Hill of Alvord, Iowa, Randy (Cindy) Van Hill of Inwood, Gary (Kathy) Van Hill of Alvord; son-in-law, Marvin (Donna) Kempema of Doon, Iowa; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren; sister, Christine Kroon of Rock Rapids, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Henrietta Van Hill of Alvord, Grace Van Hill of Rock Valley, and Jeanette Wallenburg of California.
Bud was preceded in death by his daughter, Cheryl Kempema; brothers, Donald, Gilbert, Tony, Albert, and Joe Van Hill; sisters, Gertrude Ackerman, Gertie Timmerman; and an infant twin sister, Marie Van Hill.
