Wesselina "Wes" Van Berkum

Rock Valley, Iowa ~ Wesselina Van Berkum, 94, of Rock Valley, died on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at Whispering Heights in Rock Valley.

   Public viewing with no family present will begin at noon on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley, Iowa. Her funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. Saturday with Pastor Jim Sweers of the Pioneer United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery with a time of refreshment and visitation with the family to follow at Porter Funeral Home.

   Wesselina Van Berkum was born December 14, 1927 in Rock Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Jacob and Hendrikje (Eenkhoorn) Van Hattem. She married Wallace Van Berkum on April 22, 1949. The couple lived in Rock Valley, Iowa, Luverne, Minnesota, and Windom, Minnesota during their married life. Wally died January 24, 1995.

   She is survived by her son, Dennis and wife Jennifer Van Berkum of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; daughter, Mary Koldenhoven of Rock Valley; special friend, Alfred Dirks of George, Iowa; 9 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren.

   Wesselina was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wally; son-in-law, Ron Koldenhoven; great-grandson, Justin Bousema; 2 sisters; and 2 brothers.
