In Loving Memory of Wendy Sue Jones

Wendy Sue Jones, 69, of Hawarden, Iowa, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Wendy was born on June 10, 1955, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Robert Lee and Jean Marie (Finley) Jones. She attended McCook School before continuing her education at Colorado Tech in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Wendy held a variety of roles throughout her life, including school bus driver for the Alcester-Hudson School District, cashier at Cenex and Club House Express, and employee at Custom Coils and Alkota in Alcester, South Dakota. Additionally, she worked as a lunch aide for the Sioux City Public Schools, at Kum & Go and K-Products in Hawarden, and as a valued member of the lawn and garden center at Walmart in Sioux Falls, one of her favorite jobs.
Wendy was a natural caregiver, with a deep love for children and animals. Her most rewarding and cherished role, however, was being a devoted mother to her four children. Her vibrant personality and passion for life were evident in her many hobbies, including fishing, camping, gardening, and crafting. Wendy was known for leaving her door open for anyone and doing anything she could to make everyone feel welcome and important. She was also known for her dedication to caring for neighborhood stray cats, always opening her heart and home to animals in need.
Wendy is survived by her children: Mindie (Jon) Selchert of Hawarden, IA, Richard (Jessica) Carlson of Coral Springs, FL, and Christopher (Angela) Carlson of Beresford, SD. She is also survived by her siblings: Kathy Jones of Sioux City, IA, Vicki (Roger) Merryman of Sioux City, IA, Judy (Mike) Fox of Sioux City, IA, Peggy (Mark) Tramontina of Sioux City, IA, and Dennis (Robin) Jones of Alcester, SD. Wendy’s legacy continues through her beloved grandchildren-Ashlyn, Abigail, Kaitlyn, Cheyenne, Amber, Adrianna, Hailee, Addison, Dawson, Ashton, Cameron, Paige, Max, CJ, Tate, and Ben-and her great-grandchildren, Tyler, Kaden, Kannin, Henley, Kinsley, Kru, Aryah, Thea, and Luca. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Wendy was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Joe Beavers; her nephews, Josh Trobaugh, Jeffrey Borchers, and Chad Borchers; her niece, Stephanie Fox; and other loved ones who undoubtedly welcomed her home including her cherished cat, Joseph.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Wendy’s life will be held on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden, with a time for sharing stories and visitation immediately following.
In Wendy’s memory, may we all embrace the wisdom she lived by: Ecclesiastes 3:12 says, “I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live”.
