Walter Wynia

Boyden, IA: Walter Wynia, 18, of Boyden, Iowa, died Sunday, May 14, 2023, at Rock Valley, Iowa due to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. A funeral service will be held Friday, May 19, at 1:30 PM, at the Netherlands Reformed Congregation with Rev. J.J. Witvoet officiating. The service can be audio-streamed at http://edge.mixlr.com/channel/rwkcn. Burial will follow the service. Visitation, with the family present, will be held Thursday, May 18, from 5:30-7:30 PM at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley.

    Walter Lee Wynia, son of Michael Lee and Tonia (Vander Waal) Wynia, was born November 24, 2004, in Sioux Center, Iowa. He grew up near Boyden, Iowa and received his high school diploma from Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon, Iowa on May 12, 2023.

   Walter loved working with his dad and brothers in the family construction business, West Branch Construction. He was deeply loved by his family and Walter enjoyed spending time with them whether that was at work or on family trips. His heartwarming smile would light up everyone’s day. He was always willing to help his siblings and friends without hesitation. In addition to his family, Walter also held a special bond with the family dogs.

   Walter is survived by his parents, Michael L. and Tonia Wynia of Boyden; 6 siblings, Michael W. (Karissa) Wynia of Hull, Iowa, Arthur Wynia (Special friend, Cori De Jong), Sherylyn Wynia (Fiancé, Kaleb De Jager), Mark Wynia, Maria Wynia, and John Wynia, all of Boyden; paternal grandfather, Frank Wynia of Rock Rapids, Iowa; maternal grandparents, Walter and Sheryl Vander Waal of Orange City, Iowa; nephew, Oliver Wynia; niece, Briella Wynia; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

   Walter was preceded in death by his grandmother, Marlene Wynia; and step-grandmother, Mary Ann Wynia.
