Inwood, Iowa: Viola De Haan, 84, of Inwood, died Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at Fellowship Village after suffering from a lengthy illness. Funeral service will be Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Christian Reformed Church at Inwood with Rev. Sam Krikke officiating. Burial will follow at Richland Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be Friday, August 1, 2014 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home in Inwood, Iowa. Viola Elaine De Haan was born May 19, 1930 to Neal and Bessie (Folkerts) Boersma in Inwood, Iowa. Viola graduated from Inwood High School in 1949. Following her graduation she worked in the family grocery store. On October 8, 1953, she was united in marriage to Cornelius De Haan. Together they lived on a farm north of Inwood.
Viola enjoyed going to garage sales, reading, gardening, singing, and fishing. Many wonderful memories were made spending time with family at Lake Okoboji. In 2008 she became a resident at the Rock Rapids Health Center. Viola later moved to Fellowship Village in Inwood. Viola was a member of the Inwood Christian Reformed Church.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 60 years, Cornie; son, Don of Inwood; daughter, Bonnie (Mike) Knobloch of Inwood; 2 grandchildren, Valerie (Steve) Faber of Inwood and Geoff (Elise) Knobloch of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; 6 great-grandchildren, Dana and Evan Faber and Benjamin, Jacob, Andrew, and Liliana Knobloch; 1 sister, Ella Mae Kooistra of Inwood; and many other extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Neal and Bessie Boersma; and brother-in-law, Willis Kooistra.
