Tillie J. Helgerson

ROCK VALLEY, IOWA – Tillie J. Helgerson, 95, of Rock Valley, passed away of natural causes on Friday, April 17, 2020 at Whispering Heights in Rock Valley.

   Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will not be having a public memorial at this time.  A private family graveside service will take place on Monday, April 20, 2020 at the Valley View Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Verlyn Boone of the First Reformed Church officiating. The family is planning to have a public memorial service at a later date. The family prefers memorials in Tillie’s name be directed to the First Reformed Church 1501 16th Street in Rock Valley. Condolences may be sent to www.porterfuneralhomes.com.

   She is survived by her 4 loving children, James (Penny), Roger (Dee), Carol Carter (Dan), Anne Sneller (Allan); 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Alice Hanson of Casper, Wyoming and Kay DeVos of Rock Valley, Iowa.

   Tillie worked over 30 years in food service at Rock Valley Public School while working several other jobs to provide for her family. She volunteered at the Senior Citizen’s Center and at 1st Reformed Church, where she was a faithful member for 70 years. She loved stitching beautiful gifts for family and friends and playing cards and games. Tillie was happy to spend her last 6 years at Whispering Heights Nursing Home under the loving care of their fantastic staff.
