Thomas Van Tilburg

Rock Valley, IA: Thomas “Tom” Van Tilburg, 87, of Rock Valley died Saturday, February 28, 2015 at the Hegg Memorial Health Center. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Netherlands Reformed Congregation in Rock Valley with Rev. E. C. Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be Tuesday, March 3, 2015 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley. Tom Van Tilburg was born January 8, 1928 in Carmel, Iowa to Cornelius and Antoinette (Smit). Tom proudly served 18 months during World War II in the Army Air Force where he was stationed in Guam and Iwo Jima. On October 12, 1950, Tom married Margie Hoogendoorn near Lester, Iowa. Together they farmed near Rock Rapids before retiring to Rock Valley in 1984. Tom enjoyed volunteering at Justice For All, meeting friends for coffee at Cenex, Tuesday morning coffee at the nursing home, reading farm magazines, and word finds.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cornelius and Antoinette; brothers, Emery, Floris, and Marvin Van Tilburg; brother-in-law, John Vanden Berg; infant granddaughter, Deanna Mae Wiekamp; and infant great-grandchildren, Adam and Talon Vande Kamp and Ava Yoerger.
