Thomas Joseph Aldrich, son of Eber J. and Mary M. (Raher) Aldrich, was born April 10, 1954 in Hawarden, Iowa. Tom graduated from West Sioux High School in 1972, and went to Brown College in Minneapolis, Minnesota for broadcasting. He married Charmaine (Maxwell) Chamberlain on June 7, 1980 in Vermillion, South Dakota. Tom spent many years on the radio, first in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and then as the afternoon disc jockey on KSOU (then KVDB) in Sioux Center, spinning the hits and oldies every afternoon. He also played for many events throughout the Midwest with his “Memory Bank” mobile music business, and loved car shows, reunions, and weddings. Tom was lifelong reader and an avid news follower as well as an amateur “ham” radio buff, and was fond of model (and real) trains, board games, and all types of trivia. “Grandpa Tom” loved attending dance recitals, choir performances, football games, and any other activities that his grandchildren participated in throughout the years, and always encouraged his children and grandchildren to read, enjoy music, and “Whatever you are, be a good one.”
Tom is survived by his mother, Mary of Sioux Center; his three daughters, Rhonda (Shawn) Huisman of Wichita, Kansas, and their four sons (Kyle, Ian, Tanner, and Dillon); Angelene Aldrich of Hospers, Iowa, and her daughter (Madison); and Mollie (Wade) Van Otterloo of Sioux Center, and their three daughters (Brooklyn, Cambrielle, and Isabella); a great-grandchild, Garrett; a nephew, Nick McCandless of Leadville, CO, and many cousins. He will also be missed by his great friend, Bruce Coleman.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eber, and his sister, Mary Michelle “Shelly” McCandless.
