Ted Triezenberg

Theodore "Ted" Triezenberg, 61, of Rock Valley, Iowa lost his battle with lung cancer on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Hegg Memorial Health Center in Rock Valley. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 19, 2014 at Trinity Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley with Rev. Bobby Van Otterloo officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery. Visitation, with the family present, will be held from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday, May 18, 2014 at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley. Memorials may be given to Trinity CRC or Hegg Memorial Health Center both in Rock Valley and condolences may be left for the family at www.porterfuneralhomes.com.

Theodore Dean Triezenberg was born in Seattle, Washington on November 12, 1952 to Ted and Wilma Triezenberg. Ted attended Watson Groen Christian School in Seattle for 12 years before spending a year working in the fishing industry in Alaska. He continued on to Dunwoody Bakery School in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and used this training to open a bakery in Lynden, Washington, which he operated for 5 years.

Ted met his wife Rhonda (Termaat) in Lynden, where she was working as a school teacher. They married in 1976 and then moved to Rock Valley in 1978. After working construction for several years, he began working at Valley Bakery for Henry Bleyenburg. Ted and Rhonda bought Valley Bakery in 1989 where Ted continued to bake his much-loved donuts, tea rolls, buns, and other products until his sickness forced him to close in March of 2014.

Ted will be remembered for his "good morning" greetings, quiet but powerful presence, his unique personality, and his deep faith. He was a member of Trinity Christian Reformed Church. He enjoyed hiking and skiing in his younger days, as well as camping, woodworking, reading, and spending time with his family.

Ted is survived by his wife of 37 years, Rhonda; two daughters and their families, Joni (Tim) DeJong, Taylor, Madison, Easton, and Jaxton of Larchwood, Iowa, Abby (Jason) DeGroot, Harper and Reese of Rock Valley; siblings, Pat (Bill) Bond of Snohomish, Washington, Don (Bonnie) Triezenberg of Chicago, Illinois, Ruth (Ken) Peterson of Gig Harbor, Washington; mother-in-law, Florence Termaat of Rock Valley; sister-in-law, Anita Termaat of Escondido, California; brother-in-law, Bill (Jayne) Termaat of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and nieces and nephews on both his and Rhonda's side who he loved. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Wilma Triezenberg and father-in-law, Bud Termaat.
