Sidney Gene Koedam was born May 5, 1947, at Hudson, South Dakota to William S. and Everdena (Van Beek) Koedam. He attended school at Rock Valley, Iowa and later joined the United States Air Force. Sid was united in marriage with Linda Williams on May 3, 1968, at Lennox, South Dakota. Following his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Sid returned to the family farm and later started in the livestock auction business, which lasted until 2013 when he retired.
Sid was a generous caring individual who always had a story and plenty of time to talk to anyone. He never met a stranger. After his retirement you would see him most often driving around in his pickup. The things that mattered most to Sid were his faith, family, and time with friends. Sid enjoyed racing, traveling to Mexico, Big McDonald Lake, Okoboji, and trips to the casino.
Left to cherish Sid’s memory are his three children, Jeanie (Jim) Jacobsen of Canton, South Dakota, Mike (Angie) Koedam, and Michelle Koedam, both of Rock Valley; four grandchildren, Kacie (Landon) Jacobsen-Ahlers, Brianna (Jace) Vande Kamp, Hunter Jacobsen, and Kielee Koedam (Ayden Hanson); two great-grandchildren, Larimee and Brixton; brother, Roger (Muriel) Koedam of Rock Valley; three sisters, Lavonne Joyal of Rock Valley, Betty (Randy) Kock of Inwood, Iowa, and Kathy (Dennis) Cannegieter of Rock Valley; brother-in-law Gary Williams or Worthing, South Dakota; and sister-in-law, Donna White of Lennox, South Dakota.
Sid was preceded in death by his parents, William S. and Everdena; wife, Linda; and father and mother-in-law, Alvin and Frieda Williams.
