Shirley De Weerd

Shirley Ann De Weerd, 55, of Hudson, South Dakota, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Visitation with family present will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at Porter Funeral Home in Hudson from 6:00 ' 8:00 p.m. A private family graveside service will be held at Eden Cemetery in Hudson. Shirley Ann (Van Beek) De Weerd, daughter of Simon and Henrietta (Vande Hoef) Van Beek, was born on November 12, 1958 in Sioux Center, Iowa. Shirley graduated from Rock Valley High School. She was united in marriage with Kevin De Weerd in 1983. Together they lived in rural Hudson, South Dakota, where Shirley helped Kevin on the farm. She enjoyed gardening, canning, rummaging, and traveling. She also enjoyed playing and watching sports and coached little girls' softball. One of her greatest loves was the time she spent watching and playing with her grandchildren.

Shirley's memory will be cherished by her husband, Kevin De Weerd of Hudson; two sons, Josh (Kelly) De Weerd of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota and Saul (Shannon) Bah of Portland, Oregon; one daughter, Amber De Weerd of Iowa City, Iowa; three grandchildren, Karenna, Erica, and Michael; mother, Henrietta Van Beek of Rock Valley, Iowa; two brothers, Ken (Barb) Van Beek and Glen Van Beek, all of Rock Valley; and two sisters, Sue (Barry) Harthoorn of Ainsworth, Nebraska and Sherry (Daryl) Albertson of Eldora, Iowa.

Shirley was preceded in death by her father, Simon Van Beek.
