Shirley TenNapel

IRETON, IA: Shirley Ann (Bosma) TenNapel, 89, of Ireton, Iowa, died Thursday, August 15, 2024, at home, surrounded by her loving family.

 A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, August 20, at the Ireton Christian Reformed Church with Pastor Nate Kuperus officiating. The service can be livestreamed at https://www.facebook.com/IretonCRC/. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton. Visitation with the family present will be Monday, August 19, from 5:00-7:00 PM at the church. 

 The family prefers memorials to Ireton Historical Society, Ireton Christian Reformed Church for a sound system, or St. Croix Hospice. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Porter Funeral Home of Ireton, Iowa. 

 Shirley Ann was born July 7, 1935, at Ocheyedan, Iowa, the daughter of Pete and Jennie Bosma. She graduated from Harris (Iowa) Consolidated School in 1954.

 She was united in marriage to Fred TenNapel on Oct. 12, 1956, at the Ocheyedan Christian Reformed Church. They lived in Seattle, Washington, for two years. They moved back to Ireton where they raised their family. Shirley loved music. She taught piano lessons for many years and was a church organist since age 16. She volunteered for and was a member of the Ireton Historical Society.

 Those left to cherish her memories are three sons, a daughter, daughter in law and their families. 

Doug and Susan (Franken) TenNapel of Ireton, and their children, Emily (Todd) Sudbeck, Chad (Tara) TenNapel and Katie (Austin) Price. 

Rodney and Susan (Cain) TenNapel of Ireton, and their children, Sara Ratzsch, Sarina (Aaron) Talich, Ryan (Tia) TenNapel, Samantha (Nick) Schlichte and Savana (Ben) Lehner.

Lyle and Angela (Hultquist) TenNapel of Ireton, and their children, Ella Fuller, Maci Fuller and Ava TenNapel.

Rachel (Dave) Sage of Sioux City, Iowa, and their daughter, Claire Sage.

Daughter-in-law, Lora (TenNapel) and her husband Todd Puttmann of Sioux Center, Iowa, and her daughters, Kellie (Jordan) Menning, Jessica (Travis) Feekes and Rebecca (Jason) Goslinga. 

26 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; four brothers, Roger (Rhoda) Bosma of Lake Park, Iowa, Jerry (Sylvia) Bosma of Sibley, Iowa, Dennis (Phyllis) Bosma of Ocheyedan, and Willie Bosma of Harris; siblings-in-law, Gerald Weg of Worthington, Minnesota, Dorothy VanderWilt of Hospers, Iowa, Lee (Elaine) TenNapel of Sibley and Don (Sherri) TenNapel of Sioux Center, Iowa, Vern (Elaine) TenNapel of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Marlow (Nancy) TenNapel of Leighton, Iowa, and Val (Dan) Westra of Muskegon, Michigan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Jennie Bosma; husband, Fred TenNapel; son, Kevin TenNapel; granddaughter, Greta TenNapel; and siblings-in-law, Ellen Bosma, Marvin (Celia) TenNapel, Anita Weg and Myron VanderWilt.
