Rock Valley, IA: Scott De Jong, 55, of Rock Valley, Iowa, died Monday, January 23, 2023, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Visitation, with the family present, will be held Sunday, January 29, from 4:00-6:00 PM at Carmel Reformed Church of rural Rock Valley. Visitation, with a time of coffee, cookies, and fellowship, will resume Monday, January 30, from 10:00-11:00 AM at Carmel Reformed Church with a celebration of life service to follow at 11:00 AM. Private family burial will be held at Carmel Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley is assisting the family with arrangements.
Scott De Jong was born on December 21st, 1967, in Sioux City, Iowa. He was raised on a farm near Carmel, Iowa. He graduated from Sioux Center High School in 1986. He then went on to Iowa State University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in agronomy (GO STATE!!). In 1996 he married Jennifer Koldenhoven, where they had their first home in Orange City, Iowa. There they had their first daughter, Chloe De Jong. In the next few years his family and him moved to Paullina, Iowa where they had their second daughter, Sofie De Jong. Scott worked at CS Agrow for serval years, and after that he went on to work at Nicholson & Edwards Grain, until he moved to Rock Valley, Iowa where he made his current home, working at Farmers Coop Society in Boyden, Iowa.
Scott was a member of Carmel Reformed Church, where he was very active and involved. His Christian beliefs were very important to him and used his gifts to serve the church. Besides his faith, the most important thing to him was his girls. For anyone who knew Scott, knew he wore his heart on his sleeve, putting others before himself. In his spare time, Scott enjoyed golfing and farming for the Edwards Family. He also enjoyed his annual camping trip with his sister Toni and fishing trip with the boys. Scott looked forward to his daily phone calls with Chloe, and his nights playing Xbox with Sofie or watching her basketball games. Family was very important to Scott and any time which they could spend together was invaluable to him.
Scott is survived by his wife, Jennifer; two daughters, Chloe De Jong (Stephen Alms) of Houston, Texas, and Sofie De Jong; parents, Pete and Ev De Jong; a special aunt, Jan De Jong; mother-in-law, Mary Koldenhoven; siblings, Tim (Maria) De Jong of Wisconsin, and Toni (Kelly) Shantz of Minnesota; brother and sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews; uncles and aunts.
He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Tracy Vermeer and Wes Van Berkum; uncle, Butch De Jong; father-in-law, Ron Koldenhoven; and brother-in-law, Rick Koldenhoven.
