Hawarden, Iowa ~ Sadie Ver Hoeven, 92, of Hawarden, passed away on Friday, February 8, 2019 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 13th at the Hawarden Christian Reformed Church in Hawarden with Rev. Mark Klompien officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Tuesday, February 12th, with the family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Christian Reformed Church. The Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden is assisting the family. Condolences may be sent to www.porterfuneralhomes.com. The family prefers memorials be directed to the Hawarden Christian Reformed Church.
Sadie Ver Hoeven was born February 1, 1927 near Hawarden, Iowa, the daughter of Floris and Gertrude (Mulder) Vander Stoep. She married Clarence G. Ver Hoeven on December 5, 1947 in Ireton, Iowa. Together they farmed in Union County, South Dakota. Sadie found her ministry working in nursing homes, as a nurse’s aide, medication aide, and Activity Director. In 2001, she retired from Hillcrest Health Care System in Hawarden, Iowa.
Sadie loved time with her children and grandchildren. She always looked for ways to help others in need. She attended the Hawarden Christian Reformed Church where she was a long-time member. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School and spent much time reading and studying the Bible. Sadie enjoyed singing and had many favorite hymns. She and Clarence would often host hymn sings at their home following evening church services. Clarence died on May 17, 2010.
Sadie is survived by her son, Duane Ver Hoeven and wife Carol of Hawarden; daughter, Dorinda Martin and husband Rodney of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; sister, Gertrude Kooi and husband Bill of Orange City, Iowa; brothers, Edwin “Bud” Vander Stoep and wife Norene of Rock Rapids, Iowa and Harold Vander Stoep and wife Bernice of Sioux Center, Iowa; four grandchildren and their spouses, Michelle Kilbourn and Aaron, Robert Martin, Carey Borchers and Brandy, and Kelly Ver Hoeven and Sara; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
Sadie was preceded in death by her parents; husband Clarence; and siblings, Andrew Vander Stoep and wife Margaret; Dick Vander Stoep and his wives Gladys and Evelyn; Clarence Vander Stoep; and Herbert Vander Stoep and wife Hermina.
