Rox Ann Winterfeld passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, surrounded by loved ones. She was 69 years old. 

Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Rox Ann’s life will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 29, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hawarden, Iowa with Father Roger Linnan officiating. Burial will follow at Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will begin at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. conducted by Deacon Richard Port, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden is assisting the family. 

Rox Ann was born May 9, 1955, in Sioux City, Iowa. She was lovingly welcomed home by Fred and Maxine Hoogestraat. The family made their home in Hawarden where she attended St. Mary’s Catholic School through 7th grade and then graduated from West Sioux High School in 1973. Rox attended Sioux Empire Community College and Northwestern College, graduating with her teaching degree. Rox Ann was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. 

On November 23, 1973, Rox Ann married Curt Winterfeld after a courtship dating back to 6th grade. The couple made their home in Hawarden. Their marriage was a testament to love and partnership, and together they raised two daughters, Cathy and Christy.

Family was the cornerstone of Rox Ann's life. She was a devoted mother cherishing her daughters and later, her grandchildren. She enjoyed camping, fishing, reading and supporting her grandchildren in their extracurricular activities.

Rox Ann's professional life was marked by dedication and hard work. She worked at Jubilee Foods and Wells Blue Bunny, but she found the most fulfillment as a substitute teacher at West Sioux Community Schools, where she touched the lives of many students with her kindness and patience.

Rox is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Curt; her daughters, Cathy Winterfeld of Algona, Iowa and Christy Bruner of Hawarden; her brother, Cal (Carol) Hoogestraat of Hawarden; sister-in-law, Laura Hoogestraat of Pierce, Nebraska; her grandchildren Jacob, Caitlyn, Javin, and Jackson; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other family members and friends. 

Rox Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Maxine Hoogestraat; her brother, Dave Hoogestraat; her in-laws, Ed and Phyllis Winterfeld; and her sister-in-law, Judy Winterfeld.
