Rock Valley, IA: Rose Sabers, 71, of Rock Valley, died suddenly of an apparent heart attack at Sioux Falls, SD, Wednesday February 26, 2014. A funeral service will be at 1:30 pm Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Rock Valley with Rev. Jim Locke officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley. Visitation will be Friday, February 28, 2014 from 12-4 pm at Porter Funeral Home and then with family present 6-8 pm at Our Saviors Lutheran Church. Rose Marie was born September 16, 1942 at Ashley, ND, daughter of John and Rose (Strobel) Kaul. The family later moved to Leola, SD where Rose graduated high school. Rose obtained her Bachelor's Degree at Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD. Rose met Ken while teaching music together at Lennox High School. They were married on July 23, 1971 at Lennox, South Dakota. They moved to Rock Valley in 1973 where Rose taught piano and became Our Saviors Lutheran Church secretary and organist for over 35 years. She also was the secretary at the Rock Valley Bee Newspaper office for many years. Rose enjoyed music, doing crossword puzzles, watercolor painting, and volunteering in service to others.
Survivors include her husband, Ken; her daughter, Heidi Sabers of Brooklyn, NY; brothers, David "Leroy" (Kay) Kaul of Rapid City, SD, Otto Kaul of Rapid City, and Victor (Levina) Kaul of Minneapolis, MN; sisters, Hilda Iszler of Rapid City, SD, Vivian Mack of Leola, SD, and Esther (Gordon) Schanzenbach of Columbus, OH; sister-in-law, Olivia Kaul of Spearfish, SD; and brother-in-law, David Sabers of Salem, South Dakota.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents, John and Rose Kaul; brother, Erwin Kaul; sister, Olivia Schaffer; and mother-in-law, Alma Sabers.
