HAWARDEN, IOWA- Rose Ann Roberts, 95, of Hawarden, died Sunday, May 12, 2013 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden.
Funeral Service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the American Lutheran Church in Hawarden with Rev. Erma Wolf officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Tuesday, with the family present beginning at 5:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden. Rose Ann Louise Heuer was born June 4, 1917 northeast of Hawarden, Iowa to John and Louise (Miller) Heuer. She was Baptized and Confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church rural Sioux Center, Iowa. After graduation from Sioux Center High School she went to Business College in Omaha, Nebraska. She worked at Mutual of Omaha after finishing her schooling. While in Omaha she met Densel Roberts and they were married there on November 22, 1942. Densel was drafted into the Army and was stationed in California. Rose followed him there and found employment at Lockheed Airplane Factory. Densel was shipped to France where he was captured and held as a P.O.W. Rose returned to Iowa to her family farm until she received word of his release. She then met him at a base in North Carolina. They returned to Iowa and farmed until 1964.
After moving into Hawarden, Rose spent many hours in her flower gardens. She loved house hold sales and rummage sales. Rose also spent many hours doing Hardanger projects and was very talented at it. She also was published in a book on a round pattern she invented. She loved sewing quilts with Alma Mapes for the American Lutheran Church. Rose was involved with the church, taking care of the flowers for many years, helping with funerals and Ladies Aid. She moved to the Hillcrest Health Care Center in 2007 where she passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2013 at the age of 95 years.
Survivors include her daughter, Glenna and husband Duane Fickbohm of Hawarden; two grandchildren, Robin (Myong) Fickbohm of Barnes, Kansas and Kim (Tom) Heeren of Pine Island, Minnesota; five great-grandchildren, James (Paige) Fickbohm, Jayson (Julie) Fickbohm and Nicole, Samantha, and Melanie Heeren; two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Myra Heuer, Phyllis Heuer, and Ruth Esbeck; and a brother-in-law, Benton Boyer.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents; husband Densel on January 5, 1990; a granddaughter, Trish Fickbohm; four brothers, Edwin, Harold, Clarence, and Johnny; and two sisters, Viola Grau and Lois Boyer.
Honorary casket bearers will be James and Jayson Fickbohm and Nicole, Samantha and Melanie Heeren.
