Hudson, SD: Roma (Groth) Jacobson, 72, of Hudson, died Monday, August 26, 2013 at her home, due to cancer. Private Memorial Services and inurnment at a later date. Roma's family wishes are that any memorials go to the charity of the giver's choice.
Roma was born August 13, 1941 at the Hudson Hospital, Hudson, South Dakota, daughter of Ray and Laureda (Torkelson) Groth. She graduated from Hudson High School and attended Southern State Teachers College at Springfield, SD and Yankton College at Yankton, SD. Roma taught at Eastview Rural School and later was an art instructor at Sioux Empire Community College and Yankton College. She married Stanley Neil Jacobson on June 28, 1964 at the Hudson Lutheran Church. Together they lived many places including Hudson, West Concord, MN, and Gary, SD as Neil was a band director. Roma's artistic talent involved painting, pottery, and photography. She was a collector of dolls and enjoyed sewing clothes for the dolls. Roma had a great interest in genealogy and collaborated with her aunt to chronicle the Groth family history.
Surviving relatives include her husband, Neil Jacobson; sister, Karen Kinnard of Hanover Park, IL; sister-in-law, Margaret (Stanley) Stamp; brother-in-law, Paul (Mallory) Jacobson; nephews, Kris (Jenni) Kinnard, Nick (Amy) Kinnard, Steve (Robin) Stamp, and Eric Jacobson; nieces, Bonnie (Jerry) Waddick and Kristen Jacobson; 10 grand-nieces and nephews; and many cousins.
Roma was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Laureda Groth; infant sister, Karla Groth.
