Rolland "Rolly" Mulder

Rolland “Rolly” L. Mulder, 87, of Rock Valley, Iowa died Thursday, January 08, 2015 at Avera Heart Hospital at Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 12, 2015 at Calvin Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Gideon Wamala officiating. Burial will be held prior at Valley View Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, January 11, 2015 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at Calvin Christian Reformed Church at Rock Valley. Condolences may be left for the family at www.porterfuneralhomes.com.
Rolland “Rolly” Leroy Mulder was born October 19, 1927 in Edgerton, Minnesota to Peter and Nina (Schelhaas) Mulder. Rolly married Johanna Mesman on March 6, 1947 in Leota, Minnesota. He worked as mechanic at De Boer Chevrolet in Edgerton before moving to Rock Valley in 1958 where he started Rolly’s Repair. In 1962, Tom Van Holland joined Rolly and they started M&H Repair Shop which later expanded to include M&H True Value in 1980. In 1988, he retired and became caretaker of Valley View Cemetery until his death.
Rolly was a member of Calvin CRC, a charter member of Rock Valley Male Chorus and a member of the Rock Township Board. He also attended Wednesday night Men’s Bible Study. Rolly enjoyed camping and fishing with his siblings, traveling, wintering in California, and attending his grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s activities. Rolly loved woodworking and “fixing” things.
Rolly is survived by his daughters, Lyla (Terry) Kooima of Rock Valley, Nancy (Ray) Mulder of Rock Valley, Joan (Eldon) Hoekstra of Sheldon, Iowa, and Darla (Dennis) Wynia of Rock Valley; brothers, Alvin (Evelyn) Mulder of Edgerton and Robert (Beverly) Mulder of Sheboygan, WI; sisters, Rena Tinklenberg of Edgerton and Rose (Dean) Reinicke of Madison, SD; 15 grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Johanna; sisters, Sharon Stutzman and Harriet Van Peursem and her husband Elmer; brothers-in-law, Harris Tinklenburg and Vernon Baartman.
