Rohit Ishwaralal Shah was born August 5th 1959 in Kolkata, India, son of Ishwaralal & Dayakorben Bodiwala. After meeting his wife Meena in the spring of 1990 in Surat, India, they quickly got married and headed towards their next journey – together. This journey began in New Jersey, where they spent time laughing and enjoying with close family and friends while working in the hospitality industry. After 12 great years in New Jersey, they made the decision to move to Rock Valley, Iowa – It was love at first sight.
Rohit and Meena proudly own and operate a hotel in town, where he treated every guest like family. Hospitality was second nature to him and so he spent much of his time helping others, and was an unquestionable pillar of guidance and strength for many family and friends, both near and far.
Rohit enjoyed cooking, gardening, finance, classical Hindi music, Cricket: playing, watching, and teaching others how to play. Rohit also enjoyed talking & debating politics. He loved spending time driving the countryside and was always eager to show visiting friends and family his favorite hometown sites, especially The Black Hills, Lake Okoboji, and of course Mount Rushmore.
Rohit was always trying to learn and grow, which led to him discovering another love – farming. After reading countless books, visiting with numerous experts, he purchased, his own farm in the spring of 2015. Rohit was proud of many things, but few things made him smile more than talking about being a farmer.
Rohit is survived by his wife, Meena, and siblings: Pravin, Jaybala, Hema, Ramesh of Surat, India, & Praful of Absecon, New Jersey. He is also survived by several nephews and nieces, whom loved him deeply.
