Rock Valley, IA: Roevina Hoogendoorn, 85, of Rock Valley, Iowa, died Friday, June 2, 2023, while under the care of hospice at her son’s home in Rock Valley. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 6, at 2:00 PM at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley with Rev. J.J. Witvoet of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation officiating. The service will be audio-streamed at https://www.porterfuneralhomes.com/obituaries/roevina-hoogendoorn. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley. Public viewing, with no family present, will be held Monday, June 5, from 4:00-8:00 PM at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley.

 

   Roevina (Van Ginkel) Hoogendoorn, daughter of Ralph and Effie (Maassen) Van Ginkel, was born July 12, 1937. She grew up on a farm near Inwood, Iowa. Roevina married Gilbert C. Hoogendoorn on June 20, 1956. The couple lived most of their married life in Rock Valley, Iowa.

 

   Roevina was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, dedicating much of her time to her family. She was an excellent cook and also enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling, fishing, crocheting, cross stitch, and spending time with family and friends. Roevina volunteered for several years at the Netherlands Reformed Christian School as a teacher’s aide. She was also a dedicated member of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation where she served as the church secretary for many years.

 

   Roevina is survived by her son, Michael (Marilyn) Hoogendoorn; 3 grandchildren and their families, Wendell (Nicky) Hoogendoorn and their children, Makiah and Avrey, Jeff (Crystal) Hoogendoorn and their children, Keegan, Masen, Hailey, Madisyn, and Aubree, and Amy (Joey) Hinderks and their children, Jaden, Kavan, and Peyton; brother, John (Jeanette) Van Ginkel; sister, Gertrude Vande Stouwe; brother-in-law, John Van Beek; and many nieces and nephews.

 

   Preceding Roevina in death were her parents, Ralph and Effie; husband, Gilbert; brother, Everett (Hermina) Van Ginkel; sister, Ethel Van Beek; and brother-in-law, William Vande Stouwe.
