IRETON, IOWA – Rodney Allen Vander Plas, 67, of Ireton, passed on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at the Orange City Area Health System Hospital.
Interment Service will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 25, 2020 at the Christian Reformed Church in Ireton, with procession to the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The Memorial Service will follow beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Rev. Nathan Kuperus officiating. A luncheon will follow the service. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the church. Social distancing guidelines will be followed at the church. The memorial service will be livestreamed on the church website www.iretoncrc.com.
Rodney Allen Vander Plas was born January 30, 1953 in Hudson, South Dakota, the son of Raymond and Sylvia (Mulder) Vander Plas. Rod was the oldest of 4 children. He attended the Ireton Christian School through the 8th grade.
He married Wanetta Altena on April 13, 1973 in Ireton, Iowa. Rod lived in and around Ireton his entire life. He was a member of the Ireton Christian Reformed Church.
Rod shelled corn with his father, trucked for the Life Skills Center in Le Mars, Iowa, and worked in the shipping department at Staples in Orange City, Iowa.
Rod enjoyed getting out behind the wheel trucking, hunting, riding motorcycle, and spending time with family and friends. Some of his favorite pastimes were listening to music, spicy foods (pepper and parmesan cheese), the Dukes of Hazzard, and watching NASCAR.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Wanetta; his brothers, Robert (Deborah) Vander Plas of Ireton and Tim Vander Plas of Sheldon, Iowa; sister, Debra (Jeff) Vore of Maurice, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Eunice (David) Koopmans of Maurice, Joella (Rick) Wieseler of Ireton, Lori (Rod) Bolkema of Boyden, Iowa, and Audrey (Mike) Vander Stelt of Maurice; brother-in-law, Harley (Shelly) Altena of Oshkosh, Nebraska; and many nieces and nephews.
Rod was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Sylvia Vander Plas.
