Rodney Leroy Kooima

Inwood, IA: Rodney L. Kooima, 73, of Inwood, Iowa, died Saturday, January 16, 2021, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 21, at 10:00 AM at Inwood First Reformed Church with Rev. Rob Horstman officiating. Burial will follow at Richland Cemetery of Inwood. Public visitation, with no family present, will be held Wednesday, January 20, from 3:00-7:00 PM at Inwood First Reformed Church. Social distancing protocols will be followed and masks are highly recommended. Memorials may be given to Inwood First Reformed Church. 

   Rodney Leroy Kooima, son of Fred and Bertha (Boscaljon) Kooima, was born April 2, 1947 at Hudson, South Dakota. He was united in marriage with Bonnie Jo Vande Weerd on October 24, 1969. The couple made their home in Inwood, Iowa. They were married for 47 years until Bonnie’s passing on February 16, 2017.

   Rod worked many years as a general contractor in the Northwest Iowa and Southeast South Dakota area. Rod cherished his family and loved to spend time with them. He also loved to travel. His favorite place to go was the Black Hills. Rod was so personable. He could strike up a conversation with anyone. Rod was a long-time member of Inwood First Reformed Church.

   Rod is survived by his daughter, Lisa (Mark) Wheeler of Inwood; 4 grandchildren, Dustin, Alyssa, Katelyn, and Erika Van Beek; great-granddaughter, Addison; and 2 sisters, Anna Halma of Inwood and Marilyn (Lorn) Rus of Rock Valley.

   Preceding Rod in death were his parents, Fred and Bertha; wife, Bonnie; sister, Henrietta Siemonsma; brother, Kenneth Kooima; and an infant brother, William Kooima.
