Robert 'Bob' Johnson, 96, died on April 27, 2013, at Fellowship Village, Inwood, Iowa. Services will be at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Inwood at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 with Rev. John Wolf officiating. Burial will follow at Richland Cemetery of Inwood. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home of Inwood on Tuesday, April 30, 2013. Robert was born September 2, 1916 the youngest son of John H. and Mollie Johnson at rural Inwood, Iowa. He attended rural grade school east of Inwood and graduated in 1933 from Inwood High School. He was inducted into the army in March of 1941, went overseas in November, 1944 with the 75th Infantry Division. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was honorably discharged in November, 1945. He married Waunda Holland on October 31, 1941. Robert and Waunda were blessed with three daughters: Sharree Dene who died at age 8, Laurel Lyn, and Sally Sue, stillborn.
Robert and Waunda lived and worked in the Inwood area where he retired from farming in 1990. He previously owned and operated Johnson Dairy, was employed by the Inwood Hatchery and Inwood Produce. He farmed south of Inwood for 30 years, raising mink and hogs. He served on the Lyon County Conservation Board for 25 years during the purchase of land and development of Lake Pahoja. He was also on the state Conservation and Tourism Boards.
Robert is survived by his wife of 71 years, Waunda, his daughter Laurel (Nathan) Northey, two grandchildren, Erika (Darren) Uhlenhopp and Chad (Olivia) Northey, and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, sisters, daughters, and half brothers and sisters.
