Robert Karl Flynn was born on April 14, 1945, in Seattle, Washington, to Robert and Viola Flynn. Bob was their first child. He moved with his parents to Bellevue, Washington, when he was 2 years old. Bob attended Bellevue Christian School from 1st grade through high school graduation. Upon graduation, he joined the Navy during the Vietnam War.
After his Navy service, he was employed in many different areas staying in the Pacific Northwest. In August of 1998, he moved to Rock Valley, Iowa, so he could take advantage of Hope Haven's services and be close to his sister and her family. For many years, he delivered the local Rock Valley newspaper.
In time, Bob felt that Rock Valley was his home with many friends and family. Bob had a servant heart and always thought of others before himself. He kept a very positive attitude through several medical challenges. In his spare time, he enjoyed camping, fishing and giving rides to his friends. He also collected stamps and coins. Bob had an exceptional memory and was our family historian. He was a long-time volunteer at LifeLight and enjoyed attending RiseFest. God blessed him richly through his worship at The Lighthouse.
He is survived by his mother, Viola Van Eynde of Redmond, WA: stepson Christopher Vann and granddaughter, Shelby of Bartlesville, OK; sisters Susan (Harry) Vander Mey of Redmond, WA, and Ellen (Larry) De Wit of Rock Valley, IA; stepbrothers Stephen Van Eynde of Washington, DC, and Phillip (Barbara) Van Eynde of Redmond, WA; stepsister Jeanmarie Bryant of Renton, WA; numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Kessler Flynn and his stepfather, Arthur Van Eynde.
