Hudson, South Dakota- Richard C. Hamilton, 78, of rural Hudson, died Sunday, June 15, 2014 at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls.
Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden, Iowa with Rev. Todd Bunge officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Friday, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. followed by visitation with the family until 8:30 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church. Richard C. “Rich” Hamilton was born January 2, 1936 in Union County, South Dakota, west of Akron, Iowa, the son of Carrol and Laura A. (Zachow) Hamilton. He married Janice Zimmerman May 25, 1959 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden, Iowa. They lived in Hawarden where he worked and also helped his father on the farm. Rich served for 6 years with the Air Force National Guard. They moved to the farm between Hawarden and Hudson in 1962, where they raised their family and farmed.
Rich was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden where he served on many committees including being an Elder, Trustee, and Usher. He enjoyed gardening, especially growing many onions and potatoes. He liked doing woodworking and loved spending time with his family.
Rich in survived by his wife of 55 years, Janice; 3 children, Tammy (Chris) Lewis of Hudson, South Dakota, and David and Mark of rural Hudson; 2 grandsons, Josh and wife Amanda Lewis and Cory Lewis all of Hudson; 2 great-grandchildren, Jayco Lewis and Jayden Lewis; brothers, Delbert Hamilton of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Wayne (Lorraine) Hamilton of Alcester, South Dakota, Jack (Doris) Hamilton of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Buck (Pat) Hamilton of Hawarden, Iowa; sister, Angie (Phil) Van Wyhe of Hawarden, Iowa; sister-in-law, Joyce Hamilton of Fort Worth, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
Rich was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Kimberly Kay; brother, Elvin Hamilton; and a sister-in-law, Leora Hamilton.
