Inwood, IA: Ramona “Mona” Dowdey, 89, of Inwood, Iowa, died Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at Fellowship Village of Inwood. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 3, at 11:00 AM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Inwood with Pastor Sue Sinclair officiating. Visitation, with the family present, will be held prior to the service from 9:30-10:30 AM at the church. Burial of cremated remains will be held at a later date at Richland Cemetery of Inwood.
Memorials may be directed to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or a charity of your choosing. Porter Funeral Home of Inwood is assisting the family with arrangements.
Ramona (Mona) Muriel Warne was born to Arthur and Mabel (Tweedt) Warne on November 30, 1932, in Inwood, Iowa. She graduated from Inwood Public School in 1950. After graduation, Mona worked as an executive secretary at National Reserve Life Insurance Company in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Mona met Kenneth Dowdey at the Skating Rink in Canton, South Dakota. They were married at Bethlehem Lutheran Church on June 20, 1953. After their marriage, they moved to San Antonio, Texas where Ken was stationed in the Air Force and Mona worked as an executive secretary at Straus Frank. They moved to California when Ken was discharged from the military where opportunities were better for Ken’s field of work and Mona worked as an executive secretary at Machinery Sales. Ken and Mona moved to Inwood, Iowa in January of 1961, where they purchased Porter Furniture Store (now Inwood Furniture). Mona worked in the office during the years they owned the store. They owned the store for 44 years, then sold to Darwin Ver Hoeven.
Mona was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Inwood. Mona loved to have family dinners at her house. Many holidays were spent with Mona cooking meals for a table full of relatives. Mona also helped feed the Kiwanis Club when their meetings were held at the Methodist Church. Ken and Mona did lots of traveling, including trips to all 50 states in the United States, and traveled in Europe, Red China, Carribean, South America, and they took their daughter, Renae, to Switzerland, Monaco, and Italy in 1986. Ken and Mona were avid walkers and enjoyed playing cards every afternoon in their retirement years. Ken faithfully cared for Mona when she was diagnosed with dementia. In March 2020, she moved to Fellowship Village in Inwood.
Mona is survived by her husband Ken; her daughter, Renae (Les) Kramer; her grandchildren, Jason (Krista) Dowdey and their children, Isaac, Zeven and Victoria; Kristen (Davis) Beyer and their children, MacKenzie, Aidan, Dawson, Easton, Kavan and Tayah; Nicholas (Deidre) Dowdey and their children, Brekyn, Brinley and Bresen; and her siblings, Darlene Mather, LaRae (Dick) Smith, Rodney (Dorothy) Warne, and Don (Wanda) Warne; nieces and nephews; and special friend, Darwin Ver Hoeven.
Mona was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Randall (Randy) Dowdey in August 2020; and her brothers-in-law, Lynn Mather and Ralph Summers.
