Pat Darleen Christensen age 86 of Inwood, IA died in her rest on February 17, 2013 at Fellowship Village in Inwood. Services will be held Friday, February 22 at 2:00PM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Inwood with Pastor John Wolf officiating. Burial will be in the Richland Cemetery in Inwood. Visitation with the family will occur prior to the funeral service from 12:30 ' 2:00 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Fellowship Village, Inwood IA. Pat Christensen was born August 24, 1926 in Sioux City, IA, the daughter of Harold and Beulah (Betts) Hansen. She attended Central High School in Sioux City, Iowa State University, and the University of Iowa. After high school, Pat worked in New York City for RCA. She married Kenneth E. Christensen on June 18, 1949 and they lived in various communities in South Dakota and Northwest Iowa where they raised four children. Later, she was the City Administrator/City Clerk in Inwood for 15 years.
Pat was one of the five original founders of Fellowship Village Nursing Home and she served on the Board of Directors for many years. She also served on the Board of Directors for the Northwest Aging Association representing Lyon County for over 12 years, was a delegate to the Older Iowans Legislature representing Lyon and Sioux Counties, on the Board of Directors for the Northwest Regional Housing Authority representing Lyon County, on the Lyon County Dinner Date Council, on the Inwood Medical Clinic Corporation to bring in a Medical Doctor, and served on the Inwood Community Building Board of Directors. Pat was a volunteer for Assisting the Elderly, a SHIP representative, started Dinner Date in Inwood and was a weekly supervisor. She was also a Cub Scout Den Mother in Kingsley and Inwood. Pat was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Inwood. Pat was also a member and held all of the offices of the Inwood Federated Women's Club. She advocated the idea of the Christmas Yard Signs and helped make Inwood the 'Christmas Card Community'. Pat was a member of the Rose Croix Chapter of the Eastern Star.
Pat and her husband Ken were avid fans of University of Iowa athletics, and of all West Lyon athletics and their music department. She and Ken received many honors including #1 Sports Fans in 1985, West Lyon Hall of Fame in 1989, and Inwood Citizens of the year in 1988. They loved to travel and enjoyed playing Bridge and Pinochle.
Survivors include her four children, their spouses and their children; Dr. Tom and Janie Christensen, Pensacola FL; Randy and Cindy Christensen, Jessica and Cody of Rapid City SD; Cathy and Brian Maddox, Dr. Abby (Pollema) and Ben Ferreira, Alex Pollema, and Anna Pollema, Chicago IL; and Ken and Michele Christensen, Kallan and Skyler, Windsor CO. She is also survived by her brother-in-law John McMullen, Hamilton MT; her sister-in-law Dorothy Hansen, Sioux City, IA; , and her very dear friend Carol Vander Kolk. Pat was preceded in death by her husband Ken, her father and mother, her brother Keith and sister Ruthie.
