Norman L. Cleveringa

ROCK VALLEY, IA: Norman Leon Cleveringa, 71, of Rock Valley, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 9, 2023, where you could find him every morning and night, in his tractor, doing chores. A funeral service will be held Thursday, September 14, at 10:30 AM at Trinity Christian Reformed Church of Rock Valley. The service can be livestreamed at https://livestream.com/accounts/17373723/trinitycrcservices. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley. Visitation, with the family present, will be held Wednesday, September 13, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Trinity CRC. Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley is assisting the family with arrangements.

   Norman Leon Cleveringa, son of Roger and Esther (Vanden Bosch) Cleveringa, was born November 6, 1951, at Canton, South Dakota. Norm was raised on the family farm north of Rock Valley, Iowa, and attended both Inwood Christian School and Western Christian High School. On June 12, 1971, Norm was united in marriage with LaDonna Kuiper at Sioux Center, Iowa.

   No matter what Norm was involved with, he left a lasting impression on those around him. Throughout the years he had many passions, but some stood out more than others. For more than 40 years, every summer, you could find him on the ballfield, behind the plate, catching fastpitch softball. His love of farming started while helping his father and grandfather on the family farm. Norm’s most important passion was his family. When it came to his grandchildren, he was their biggest supporter, whether it was on the ballfield, hunting in the woods, or if it involved their jobs. None of his children ever had to call a carpenter, electrician, plumber, or mechanic, because Norm was talented in fixing just about anything.

   Norm is survived by his wife of 52 years, LaDonna; 5 children, Chris (Laura) Cleveringa of Doon, Iowa, Alanda (Chad) Koenen of Rock Valley, Ryan (Jennifer) Cleveringa of Lincoln, California, Darin (Jenifer) Cleveringa of Lawton, Iowa, and Ross (Camy) Cleveringa of Rock Valley; 26 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Sandi (Dan) Altena of Sioux Center; and 3 brothers-in-law, Jerry Bosma of Sanborn, Iowa, Leroy Rozeboom of Inwood, Iowa, and Kevin (Garneth) Kuiper of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

   Norm was preceded in death by his parents, Rog and Esther Cleveringa; parents-in-law, Louis and Katherine Kuiper, and two sisters, Cella Bosma and Marcia Rozeboom.
