Nona Olson

Hawarden, Iowa ~ Nona M. Olson, 98, of Hawarden, died on Monday, September 14, 2015 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Trinity Lutheran Church LCMS in Hawarden with Rev. Todd Bunge officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden. Condolences may be sent to www.porterfuneralhomes.com. In Lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be directed to the Hawarden Public Library or Hospice of Siouxland.
Nona M. Newton Strong Olson was the only child of William Newton and Ella Johnson, born February 25, 1917. She married Arthur Raymond Strong in 1938. They had two children, Linda E. Strong and Arthur W. Strong. Art died in 1946. Nona married Wayne S. Olson in 1953. He died in 1974.
Nona lived her life in Hawarden IA. She graduated from Hawarden High School, class of '34. She was employed in various businesses: Mullarkey's Dairy, Vanderburg's Bakery, The K&K, Coast to Coast Gift Shop and Step N Style.
Nona was involved with the Lutheran Ladies Aid, the Crafty Cats, Historical Society, and the Thrift Shop.
She spent her retired years on the computer and face book to keep up with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and her many friends.
Living family members include: son, Arthur Strong (Susan) of Charles City, IA; son-in-law, Philip Anderson (Myrna) of Sioux City, IA; grandchildren, Jennifer Strong Caskey (Christopher), Ryan Strong, Michael Strong (Alison), Scott Anderson (Dawn), Bobbi Anderson Oswald (Dan), Beth Anderson Schwendinger (Mark); great-grandchildren, Brianna and Haley Anderson, Tyler, Alycia, and Braydon Oswald, Madison and McKenzie Schwendinger, Cameryn and Alex Caskey, Bowen and Archer Strong, Dominic and Vince Strong; and nieces and nephews.
Nona was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Art and Wayne; and her beloved daughter, Linda Strong Anderson. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
