Hawarden, IA: Neva Van Donge, 92, of Hawarden, Iowa died Friday, October 26, 2018, at Hillcrest Health Care Services in Hawarden. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 30, at 10:30 AM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ireton, Iowa with Rev. Michael Boothby officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton. Visitation, with the family present, will be held Monday, October 29, at Porter Funeral Home in Ireton from 6:00-7:30 PM.
Neva Madeline Van Donge (Hoogland) passed away October 26, 2018 at Hillcrest Health Care in Hawarden, IA where she resided 7 years. She was born on November 10,1925. The daughter of Jacob & Olga (Ball) Hoogland. She was a graduate of Hawarden High School. Neva married Jarold Van Donge on May 16, 1948 in Hawarden, IA. Of this marriage two children were born Wauneva (Peanut) & Waune. Waune passed away August 28, 2002 & Jarold passed away November 14, 2002.
She was a life-long resident of the Hawarden/Ireton area. Together Jarold & Neva made their life on a farm in the Ireton area. They moved into Ireton in 1968 when Jarold’s health deteriorated. She went to work for Ireton Produce in Ireton until her retirement. Neva was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ireton, Eagles Club, she embroidered the names on the flags in the Ireton Cemetery until her health failed. She loved to crochet many things, she sewed all her children’s clothes when they were young. Neva collected owls and key rings. If anyone in the family went anywhere a key ring always came home for her. Her and Her husband loved to go to dances. They belonged to a square dance club for many years and taught their children & grandchildren how to dance. She loved to be in the garden and canned up until the day she could not do it any longer. She was a great help to her daughter during canning season and has really been missed these past years when it came to tipping green beans and scalding tomatoes. Neva also enjoyed bowling in mixed league and women’s league for many years.
Neva is survived by her daughter Wauneva “Peanut” Wagers & her husband Steve of Hawarden; 2 granddaughters – Dawn Swope & her husband Richard of Lynn Center, Illinois and Heather Kaskie & her husband Shawn of Ireton; a grandson – Weston Van Donge of Pocahontas, IA; 11 great-grandchildren – Colton, Dereck & Abigail Kaskie; Alicia & Jonathan Rus; Sydney & Hannah Swope; Wyatt, Ayvrie, Sawyer & Greyson Van Donge; 2 great-great-grandchildren – Nevaeh & Brantley Kaskie; a sister – Iona Harms & her husband Ernie of Las Vegas, NV and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Neva was preceded in death by her parents; husband- Jarold Van Donge; son – Waune Van Donge; brothers – Ralph “Bud” Hoogland and stillborn brother Richard Hoogland; sisters- Elwanda Willer, Phyllis Anderson, Shirley Harvey & Betty JoAnn Hoogland at 3 yrs. old.
