Neva Busch

Hawarden, Iowa ~ Neva Jean (Liston) Busch, 90, of Rock Valley, Iowa, formerly of Hawarden, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at the Whispering Heights in Rock Valley.

Funeral Service will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, January 12 at the Associated Church in Hawarden with Rev. Erma Wolf officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Thursday, with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and a time of sharing at 7 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden. Neva Jean (Liston) Busch was born January 12, 1927 in Union County, South Dakota to Orlen and Tena (Jager) Liston. They moved to Hawarden, Iowa where Neva started school. She graduated from the Hawarden High School in 1945. She worked at the Council Oak store, J.C. Penney, and the Central Natural Gas Company before working at Farmers State Bank for 35 years. After her retirement from the bank, Neva worked for several years at Quick Corner.

Neva married Lawrence “Bud” Busch on September 4, 1949. They made their home in Hawarden and had 2 daughters, Becky and Sue. Bud died on August 21, 2009.

Neva was active in the Democratic Party, the Associated Church, and was treasurer of the VFW Auxiliary for 40 years. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, and she excitedly told everyone that she got to see them win the World Series in her lifetime!

Survivors include her 2 daughters, Becky Warwick of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Sue (Mike) Van Bochove of Hawarden; 3 grandchildren, Amy (Paul Kock) Roseland of Canton, South Dakota, Blair Brunsting of Sioux Falls and Kevin (Heather Simunek) Brunsting of Canton; 5 great-grandchildren, Lance (Abby) Roseland, Desi Roseland, Torie Simunek, Rora Solem, and Maggie Brunsting; 2 brothers, Norman (Karen) Liston of St. Paul, Minnesota and Dick (Judy) Liston of Hawarden; and 3 sisters-in-law, Dianna Liston of Alcester, South Dakota, Marilyn Radke of Akron, Iowa and Karen Liston of Midlothian, Texas.

Neva was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bud; 9 brothers, Lee, Shorty, Daryl, Howard, Wesley, Duane, Lawrence, Jim, and Roger; 5 sisters, Vivian Finch, Myra Heuer, Betty Gronemeyer, Darlene “Mick” Rummel, and Cindy McKee; and 2 sons-in-law, Stuart Waterman and Brad Warwick.
