HAWARDEN, IOWA ~ Nellie Huenink, 90, of Hawarden, died on Friday, June 2, 2017 at the Hillcrest Healthcare Center in Hawarden, Iowa.
Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at the Hawarden Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Mark Klompien officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden. Visitation with the family present will be 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Hawarden Christian Reformed Church. Condolences may be sent to www.porterfuneralhomes.com. Nellie Huenink was born January 19, 1927 in Hawarden, Iowa, the daughter of Adriaan and Clara (Glimmerveen) Haverhals. She was married to Marvin Huenink on February 18, 1948 in Lebanon, Iowa. They lived on a farm east of Hudson, South Dakota and later moved to Alcester, South Dakota and farmed until December of 1976. They moved to Hawarden, Iowa in 1977.
She enjoyed gardening, flowers, anything involved with the Church, and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Hawarden Christian Reformed Church where she did janitor work for 30 years. She also was a member of the Ruth Circle and Dorcas Aid.
She is survived by her four children: sons, Larry (Wanda) Huenink and Bob (Karen) Huenink both of Alcester, South Dakota and James Huenink of Hawarden; daughter, Donna (Cal) Ten Braak of Gillette, Wyoming; seven grandchildren, Tim (Kristi) Huenink, Kimberly (Todd) Hazel, Katie (Tim) Manning, Ryan (Brittany) Huenink, Holly (Bob) Isenberger, Heather (Dustin) Martinson, and Andrew Ten Braak; great-grandchildren, Ashleigh Oschner, Talen and Kianna Hazel, Mason, Jenna, and Emmett Manning, Jillian, McKenna, and Cora Huenink, Tyzer, Tadlee, Tryce, and Tripp Isenberger, and Bella, Evan, and Owen Martinson; a sister-in-law, Grace Haverhals of Hudson, South Dakota; and many nephews and nieces.
Nellie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughter, Jill Renae Huenink; brother, Severt A. Haverhals; and three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Bertha Haverhals, Ann and Peter Vos, and Henrietta and Wilbur Huenink.
