HAWARDEN, IOWA ~ Nancy Shanker, 58, of Beresford, South Dakota, formerly of Hawarden, Iowa, passed away on Monday, October 21, 2019 at Ava’s House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

   Funeral Service will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, October 24, 2019 at the First Baptist Church in Hawarden, Iowa with Pastor Stuart Schreur officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Refreshments and a time of visitation with the family will follow the committal. The Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden is assisting the family.

   Nancy Darlene Shanker was born November 27, 1960 in St. Clairsville, Ohio, the daughter of Donald and Joan (De Vaughn) Wills. The family moved to Hawarden, Iowa when she was 8 years old and she attended West Sioux Schools.

   Nancy married Jim Miller in 1978 and they made their home in Le Mars, Iowa and had two daughters, Lisa and Misty. Nancy later married Lawrence Schumacher and they had four children together, Kimberly, Dorothy, Laura, and Donald. Nancy and Lawrence lived in Chatsworth, Iowa.

   In 2000, Nancy moved to Rapid City, South Dakota where she met her fiancé Dennis Williams. She returned to the Hawarden area two years ago because of health problems.

   Nancy enjoyed fishing, camping, and riding motorcycles. She loved the outdoors and liked gardening and planting flowers.

   She is survived by her six children, Lisa Stapleton of Alcester, South Dakota, Misty Hageman and husband Tom of Belle Fouche, South Dakota, Kimberly Nohava and husband Robbie of Hawarden, Dorothy Simms III and husband Thomas of Minnesota, Laura Harling and husband Collin of Omaha, Nebraska and Donald Schumacher of Hudson, South Dakota; her mother Joan Wills of Beresford, South Dakota; four sisters, Betty Erickson and husband Brent of Centerville, South Dakota, Donna Branson and husband David of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Cheryl Nelson and husband David of Hawarden, and Brenda Niemiec of Beresford; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

   Nancy was preceded in death by her father, Donald Wills; and niece, Rochelle De Vries.
