HAWARDEN, IOWA~ Nancy Mae DeBoer, 88, of Hawarden, died on Monday, December 7, 2015 at the Hillcrest Health Care Services in Hawarden.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Hawarden Community Church with Rev. Derek Vande Slunt officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 1 hour prior to the service at the church. The Porter Funeral Home is assisting the family. Online condolences may be sent to www.porterfuneralhomes.com.
Nancy Mae DeBoer was born October 16, 1927 near Hudson, South Dakota, the daughter of Gerrit and Agnes (Van Der Ven) Van Noort. She was raised in the Hudson and Fairview area of southeast South Dakota. She worked for farm wives and merchants in the area. Nancy married Walter G. DeBoer on April 23, 1947 on her family farm near Stickney, South Dakota. The couple moved to Pease, Minnesota for two years before returning to the Hawarden, Iowa area. Nancy continued as a homemaker at farms where her husband worked until they started farming in 1953. They farmed in the Fairview, Canton, and Hawarden areas until 1961. After farming, Nancy worked for local cafes as a waitress and a cook until her retirement in 1990.
Nancy enjoyed crocheting and almost anything with fabric. She liked camping and all of the time spent with her grandkids. She enjoyed her friends, and family reunions. Nancy was a member of the Hawarden Community Church where she was a part of RCW and Willing Workers.
Nancy is survived by her children, daughter, Judith and her husband Lon Woitte of Lake Forest Park, Washington; and son, Ronald DeBoer and his friend Connie Witzel of Hawarden; brother, Gerrit “Smokie” Van Noort and wife Sharon of Hawarden; sisters, Agnes Wulf of Hawarden and Clara Brunsma of Stickney, South Dakota; sisters-in-law, Rose Van Noort and Minnie Van Noort; grandchildren, Todd and wife Nichole DeBoer of Bismarck, North Dakota, Mitch and wife Buffany DeBoer of Wayne, Nebraska, Roger Woitte and wife Sharon Berg of Herndon, Virginia, and Sara (Woitte) and husband Jason Eisenhauer of Seattle, Washington; and 6 great-grandchildren, Tanner, Adam, Trevor, Haley, Roma, and Felix.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter on February 16, 2013.; daughter-in-law, Patricia; 5 brothers, infant William, Jacob and wife Elsie, Bill, Bernard and wife Beverly, and Marvin; sisters, Doris De Bruin and Ann Overweg; and brothers-in-law, Dirk Overweg, Eldon Brunsma, and Lawrence Wulf.
