Mina DeJong

Hawarden, Iowa: Mina De Jong, 88 of Hawarden, died Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Hillcrest Health Care Services in Hawarden. Funeral service will be held on Friday, June 14, 2013 at Hawarden Christian Reformed Church at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Stuart Schreur officiating. Private Family burial will be held prior at Grace Hill Cemetery in Hawarden. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2013 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden. Mina (Van Der Wal) De Jong was born August 27, 1924 in Ferwerd, The Netherlands, to William and Anna (Bosch) Van Der Wal. She was united in marriage to David De Jong on January 23, 1947. They moved to the United States in March 1951, settling in Hull, Iowa. They purchased Central Caf' in 1976 and made their home in Hawarden, Iowa.

Mina was preceded in death by her parents, husband, David and brother, Phillip. She is survived by one daughter, Ann (Vern) Boer of Lyons, South Dakota and four sons; John (Judi) De Jong of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Bill (Deb) De Jong of Hawarden; Dennis (Janna) De Jong of Sioux Center, Iowa and David (Shirley) De Jong of Hawarden; 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
