HAWARDEN, IOWA~ MERLYN L. "MERK" BUSCH, 83, of Hawarden, Iowa, died Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
Memorial Service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 7, 2015 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden, Iowa with Rev. Todd Bunge officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Friday with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden.
Merlyn Leroy "Merk" Busch was born December 11, 1931 on the farm six miles NW of Ireton, Iowa, the son of Carl and Helen (Heuer) Busch. He was baptized January 17, 1932 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden and confirmed May 20, 1945 at St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ireton. He attended school in Eagle Township.
Merlyn married Shirley Vander Feen on August 31, 1951. They moved to the Busch family farm three miles south of Hawarden the following year, where Merlyn lived the rest of his life. He had a dairy farm and also raised crops for feed. In the later years he had horses for his hobby and also worked at Sioux Fertilizer. Merlyn was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church LCMS and enjoyed his coffee groups at Jubilee and Kum and Go. Merlyn most enjoyed spending time with his family, especially at home on the farm.
He is survived by his four children and their families, Steve Busch and wife Julie of Burnsville, Minnesota and children, Bridget and Courtney; Jerilyn Watkins and husband Doug of Sioux City, Iowa and children Erik and Brenton; Mark Busch and wife Sherri of Alcester, South Dakota and children Jamie, Tyler, Steffanie, Jacob, Kody, and Kade; and Todd Busch and wife Lynette of Alcester, South Dakota and children Emily and Jennifer; 6 great-grandchildren and one on the way; and his siblings, Darlow Busch and wife Sally of Ireton, Iowa and Iona Anderson of Sheldon, Iowa.
Merlyn was preceded in death by his parents.
