Hudson, SD: Merle D. Solberg, 94, of Hudson, South Dakota died Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden, Iowa. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hudson Lutheran Church with Rev. Lori Marty officiating. Burial will follow at Eden Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 6:00-7:30 p.m., Friday, October 23, 2015 followed by a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. all at the Hudson Lutheran Church. Merle Donald Solberg was born March 22, 1921 in rural Hudson, South Dakota, the son of Melvin and Inga (Grevlos) Solberg. Merle attended Country School #9, graduated from Hudson High School in 1939, and furthered his education at Iowa State University. On August 5, 1962, Merle was united in marriage to Leota Kay Lindstedt in Wessington Springs at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. To this union, two children were born, AprilSue and Troy. For 15 years, they lived a half mile away from the Solberg farmstead where they would eventually move to, where Merle was a cattle and crop farmer. Merle was secretary of Farmers Telephone Line, secretary of the church council, and an active member of Luther League.
Merle is survived by his wife, Kay; daughter, AprilSue K. King (special friend, Michael Stalcup) of Valley Springs, South Dakota; son, Troy (Cary) Solberg of Milliken, Colorado; and 5 grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Ardis Solberg.
