Inwood, Iowa: Melvin Serck, 93, of Inwood, died Friday, November 28, 2014 at Sanford Canton~Inwood Hospital in Canton, South Dakota. Funeral service will be held on Friday, December 12, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church at Alvord, Iowa with Pastor Corilee Boer officiating. Burial will follow at Richland Cemetery at Inwood. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2014 from 5:00-6:30 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home of Inwood. Memorials may be given to Christ Lutheran Church at Alvord and condolences may be left at www.porterfuneralhomes.com.

Melvin Leroy Nicholas Serck, son of Herman and Edna (Kock) Serck, was born April 26, 1921 at Inwood, Iowa. Melvin graduated from Inwood High School, Class of 1939. He farmed in the Inwood and Alvord area, retiring in 1984. Melvin enjoyed traveling, fishing, and his daily pinochle card game with the boys in Alvord.

Melvin is survived by his niece, Norma (Norman) Mortenson of Sparta, Wisconsin; nephew, James (Carmen) Near of Absaraka, North Dakota; great nephew, Brian (Elizabeth) Mortenson and their son, Alexander of Naples, Florida and great niece, Sienna (Tim) Anderson and their daughter, Olivia of Fargo, North Dakota.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Edna Serck; one sister, Evelyn (Bill) Near; nephew, Dale Near and great nephew, Terrance Mortenson.
