Marvyl Kahl, 94, of Inwood, Iowa, died Monday, September 29, 2014 at Fellowship Village at Inwood. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church at Inwood with Rev. John Wolf officiating. Burial will follow at Richland Cemetery at Inwood. Visitation, with the family present, will be Friday, October 3, 2014 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home at Inwood. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or Fellowship Village, both of Inwood. Condolences may be left for the family at www.porterfuneralhomes.com.
Marvyl Anne (Koll) Kahl was born May 31, 1920 at Sherman, South Dakota to George and Martha (Rath) Koll. She moved with her parents to Rock Rapids, Iowa when she was 2 years old. She was baptized in June 1927 in the home of her grandparents. She attended rural school in Cleveland Township, graduating from 8th grade in 1933. She was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids in 1934 and she graduated from Wilson High School in Rock Rapids in 1937. She married Norval Kahl at Inwood on May 18, 1943. Together they lived near Inwood for 4 years; Hudson, South Dakota for 10 years; near Larchwood, Iowa for 1 year and then back to rural Inwood in 1958. They moved into Inwood in 1980.
She was a Brownie leader, 4-H leader, active in Bethlehem Lutheran Womens Society, serving as an officer at various times, member of Sioux Settlers Homemakers Club, member of the Canton-Inwood Hospital Auxiliary, member of the Inwood American Legion Auxiliary and she especially treasured the Coffee Grounds group at the Inwood café.
Marvyl is survived by two sons, Ronald (Judy) Kahl of Janesville, Wisconsin; Lyle (Rosalyn) Kahl of Rock Rapids; one daughter, Marlene (Larry) Davis of Humboldt, Nebraska; 9 grandchildren, Michelle (Mack) Lanier, Gregory (Brenda) Kahl, Holli Spitler, Dixie (Ken) Boudreau, Tracy (Eric) Arnold, Michael (Marilyn) Kahl, Marcus (Kristi) Kahl, James Diller and Mark Diller; 7 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; one sister, Amiee Schlumbohm of Rock Rapids; two sisters-in-law, Lorayne Koll of Rock Rapids and Eulalia Koll of Pipestone, Minnesota; also several step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Marvyl was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Norval Kahl, in 1998; one infant grandson; two brothers, Howard and Daryl Koll; one sister, Beverly Schmidt and her husband, Vernon; brothers-in-law, Harold Schlumbohm, Harvey Kahl and his wife, Lorena and Vernon Kahl and his wife, Agnes.
