Marvin Simon Post, the son of Simon and Gertrude (Meendering) Post, was born April 18, 1945 in Hudson, South Dakota. Marv proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He received his GED and earned an associate’s degree. He started his own electrician business and later Sparkle Carwash Sales and Services, which he owned with his son. Marv’s hobbies included farming, taking motorcycle trips, going on Jeep rides, and he was always up for any outdoor adventure. He enjoyed going on hog hunting trips, fishing trips, and hunting deer with his cross bow.
Marv’s patriotism was second to none. He was a lifetime American Legion member and served as commander for several years. Marv was also a member of Doon First Reformed Church. He loved to cook and mess up the kitchen. Marv enjoyed watching his grandkids play sports and never missed a game. You could always find him in the stands cheering for the Alcester Hudson Cubs. Marv took care of the flowers in Doon and he would tell you that they were the best flowers in the area. Marv would often say, “If you enjoy what you do, you will never work a day in your life.”
Marv is survived by his wife, Joan; daughters, Shana (Brett) Doering of Alcester, South Dakota, Bobbi Jo (Lance) Johnson of Ridgway, Colorado; sons, Monte (Rachel) Post and Michael Post, both of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; 4 grandchildren, Gavin Doering (Jordyn Berg), Elly Doering, Shenia Doering (Gabe King), and Jaxon Doering; siblings, Kenneth (Tracy) Post, Willard (Janet) Post, and Wilma Van Bemmel, all of Doon; and siblings-in-law, Evertt (Hedy) Van Maanen, Mary Ann (Earl) De Bey, Linda (Bruce) Kooima, Marv (Melinda) Van Maanen, Randy (Sue) Van Maanen, and Brad Van Maanen.
