Martina Kragt

Rock Valley, Iowa: Martina Kragt, age 89 of Rock Valley, died Thursday, November 07, 2013 at Whispering Heights. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at First Christian Reformed Church, Rock Valley. Burial will be prior at 1 pm at the Valley View Cemetery. Visitation with family will be 6-7:30 pm Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at Porter Funeral Home. Condolences may be left for the family at www.porterfuneralhomes.com.

Martina was born January 1, 1924 near Leota, Minnesota, daughter of Jan and Pieternella (De Witte) De Kam. The family moved to Lebanon and then to Rock Valley, Iowa. Martina married Edward Kragt on January 1, 1954. Together they farmed in Lyon and Sioux County, Iowa. Martina also worked at the Rock Valley Bakery and later as a cook at Rock Valley Christian School. Edward died on February 4, 2003. Martina moved to Whispering Heights November 15, 2012.

Surviving relatives include her children, Jay (Doris) Kragt of Rock Valley, Arlis (Ken) Katerberg of Grand Rapids, MI, Nelvia (Arnie) Warntjes of Boyden, IA; 10 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Esther (Les) Ruis of Pease, MN, and Jeanne Kragt Barchinger of Fargo, ND; and many nieces and nephews.

Martina was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; parents; infant sister, Lena; infant brother, Petier; brothers, John, Pete, Marvin, Sam, and Clarence De Kam; sisters, Nellie Bakker, Johanna Bakker, Lena DeRoon, Anna Van Beek, Elizabeth Oostra, Frances Boer, and Catherine Groeneweg.
