Marlin Raynie, 75, passed away on May 1, 2024, in Sioux City, Iowa. He was born August 19, 1948, in Hawarden, Iowa. He was the third son of Doyle and Erva Raynie. His father died when Marlin was age 3. At age 8, his mother married Harlan Markley and the family moved to Marathon, Iowa. He went into the Army in 1967 and left in 1969. Marlin was in Vietnam at Cam Rahn Bay and Dong Ba Thin. After he left the Army, he enlisted in the Air Force and served from 1972 to 1976 being stationed in Thailand.
Marlin obtained an Associate of Arts degree from Sioux Empire College in 1979. Subsequently, he spent time in Texas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Iowa. In the last several years he has lived in or near Sioux City and Hawarden. He always considered Siouxland his home. He loved to remember family and the history of Hawarden and Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother; his older brother, Preston; and many cousins and aunts and uncles.
Marlin is survived by his brother, Byron Raynie and his wife Candace of West Fargo, North Dakota; sister, Linda Berry and her husband John of Arvada, Colorado; sister-in-law, Diana Raynie of Sheldon, Iowa; and nieces.
Private family services will be held. The Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden, Iowa is assisting the family.
