Sioux City, IA: Mark A. Dykstra of Sioux City, Iowa, originally Hawarden, Iowa, passed away in peace on May 17, 2021 at the age of 64. Disabled since birth, Mark shared his big heart with a loving family and many caregivers from Glenwood to Sheldon in western Iowa. Mark thrived these past ten years at Courage Homes in Sioux City, enjoying work and activities, a great quality of life, and lasting friendships.
Mark’s parents, George Dykstra and Milly Moen, and siblings, Joe, Anny, and Mike predeceased him. He is survived by sisters, Linda (Frank) of Arizona, Mary (Bill) of Wisconsin, Alice (Don) of Illinois, and Monica (Larry) of New York; brothers, John (Hiromi) of Florida and Dennis of Nebraska; and many nieces and nephews.
There were many things Mark couldn’t do, but he learned to ride a bike, shoot pool, be happy, and be a good friend. He took pride in his job at the Mid-step Services Work Center, and looked forward to Friday payday and his favorite cheeseburger and a Diet Coke. Mark loved to dance, go for rides in the car, visit friends at the Eagles Club, and talk on the phone. Most of all, Mark loved to go home.
The family thanks the staff and members at Courage Homes for their friendship and loving care, and sends thanks in appreciation to Hospice of Siouxland for the wonderful services they provide.
A graveside service and celebration of Mark’s life is planned for July 31 in Hawarden.
