Marie Boogerd

Rock Valley, IA: Marie Boogerd, 93, of Rock Valley, Iowa, died Sunday, June 3, 2018 at Whispering Heights in Rock Valley. Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 9 at 11:00 AM at Calvin Christian Reformed Church of Rock Valley with Rev. Gideon Wamala officiating. Visitation, with the family present, will be held prior to the memorial service from 9:00-10:00 AM at the church. Burial will be held following the visitation at 10:15 AM at Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley. Memorials may be given to the Hope Haven Wheelchair Ministry or Whispering Heights.

Marie (Van Oosbree) Boogerd, daughter of John C. and Marie (Van Velzen) Van Oosbree, was born August 13, 1924 in Sioux Center, Iowa. She was a graduate of Sioux Center High School. Marie was united in marriage with James Bartel Boogerd on September 27, 1946. The couple lived in Bremerton, Washington before moving to Sheldon, Iowa. They moved to Hull, Iowa in 1948, and to Rock Valley in 1957. James died January 14, 1994. Marie was a member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church of Rock Valley.

Marie enjoyed quilting and lovingly made many quilts for her grandchildren and great grandchildren and for children in her community. She hunted garage sales and enjoyed finding toys for her great grandkids to play with when they visited. She was well known by many for her chocolate chip cookies and homemade pea soup and also wrote many encouraging letters to family. In her later years she lit up when her family came to visit, especially when she got to hold a new great grand baby and see how big her great grand kids were growing.

Marie is survived by seven children, Dennis John (Doris Maas) Boogerd of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, James David (Sheryl De Boer) Boogerd of Rock Valley, Marilyn Beth (George) Caswell of Inwood, Iowa, Robert Wayne (Lori Vande Velde) Boogerd of Rock Valley, William Earl Boogerd of Rock Valley, Betty Jane (Doug) Elgersma of Sanborn, Iowa, and Rachel Annette (John) Bergeland of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; 15 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; and 2 sisters-in-law, Jean and Norma Van Oosbree.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Linda Boogerd; granddaughter, Lisa Wielenga; 4 brothers; and 2 sisters.
