Marian Mae Wallenburg

Inwood, IA: Marian Wallenburg, 84, of Inwood, Iowa, died Sunday, April 9, 2023, at Fellowship Village of Inwood. A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 13, at 11:00 AM at the Inwood Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Adam Eisenga officiating. The service can be livestreamed at https://www.facebook.com/InwoodCRC. Private family burial will be held prior to the service at Richland Cemetery of Inwood. Visitation, with the family present, will be held Wednesday, April 12, from 5:30-7:30 PM at Inwood CRC.

   Memorials may be given to the Inwood Christian School. Porter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

   Marian Mae (Brands) Wallenburg was born December 16, 1938, daughter of Henry and Jennie (Brouwer) Brands. She grew up helping on the farm with her sisters and brother west of Inwood, Iowa. She attended the country school and went to High School at Western Christian High in Hull, Iowa.

   On October 6, 1959, she was married to W. Gerald Wallenburg of Rock Valley, Iowa. Marian worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone in Canton, South Dakota for 2 years. Together they moved to the Sioux Center, Iowa area, where they had their family, and built and finished houses together.

   In 1978 they moved to Inwood. Marian worked at Canton Good Samaritan Nursing Home for 28 years as a nursing assistant, and eventually housekeeping and laundry supervisor. She retired from there at the age of 68. After retirement, she enjoyed going on various mission trips with her husband. Together they also enjoyed 10 years as winter snowbirds in Casa Grande, Arizona, where they made many good friends.

   Marian enjoyed anything involving family. She enjoyed sewing quilts for the grandchildren. Baking for the family and teaching the grandchildren how to bake was a joy. Baking good homemade bread was her pride and joy. She was willing to teach anyone who was willing to learn! Marian enjoyed canning foods together and even cleaning. She always looked forward to family gatherings with her sisters and brother.

   For the past 45 years Marian was a faithful member of the Inwood Christian Reformed Church where she taught Sunday School and enjoyed different Bible study groups.

   Marian passed away at Fellowship Village Nursing Home in Inwood on April 9, 2023, surrounded by her family, after a short time in hospice care. She was 84 years old.

   Marian is lovingly remembered by her husband of 63 ½ years, Gerald; 7 Children, Roger (Katherine) Wallenburg, Springfield, Missouri, David Wallenburg (special friend, Nicole Rozeboom), Inwood, Sharon (Craig) Landegent, Alvord, Iowa, Darwin (fiancé Nancy Wilke) Wallenburg, Inwood, Brian (Deb) Wallenburg, Inwood, Marlin (Charlotte) Wallenburg, Kansas City, Missouri, and Brent (Amy) Wallenburg, Zeeland, MI; 22 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; sisters, Nelma Byker, Gertrude Kruid, both of Orange City, Iowa, Arlene Bakker of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Carol Joyce (Bill) Bouwman of Rock Valley; brother, Gerald (Lavina) Brands, Inwood; sisters-in-law, Eunice (Gerrit) Teunissen of Rock Valley and Gert (Ed) De Jong of Centennial, Colorado; and brother-in-law, John (Dori) Wallenburg of Rock Valley.

   Marian was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Jennie Brands; and sisters, Rena In’t Veld, Jennie Dragstra, and Dorothy Voortman.
