Marian Verburg

Rock Valley, IA: Marian Verburg, 98, of Rock Valley, Iowa, died Friday, October 16, 2020 at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden, Iowa. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 24, at 10:30 AM at First Reformed Church of Rock Valley with Rev. Dr. Verlyn Boone officiating. The service can be live-streamed at https://www.rvfrc.org/. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley. Public visitation, with no family present, will be held Friday, October 23, from 2:00-7:00 PM at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.

   The family requests that memorials be directed to Hope Haven in Rock Valley.

   Marian (Vink) Verburg, the daughter of Garret and Annie (Te Brink) Vink, was born June 27, 1922 at Georgeville, Minnesota. As a young child, she moved with her parents north of Perkins, Iowa along Highway 75. She later moved north of Hull, Iowa.

   Marian was united in marriage to Richard Verburg on February 11, 1943. Together they lived on the farm west of Rock Valley. In June of 1983, they retired and moved to Rock Valley. Marian was a homemaker. She loved gardening, canning, and baking cakes and goodies that she would give to others. She loved crocheting hangers and making quilts for the family. Marian was a member of the First Reformed Church of Rock Valley, the Eunice Circle, Hope Haven Auxiliary, and Hegg Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

   Marian is survived by her sons, Kenneth (Mary Lou) Verburg, Arlan (Alma) Verburg both of Rock Valley, Iowa; daughter, Rhonda (Ken) Gould of Sheridan, Wyoming; 6 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Anna Scholten of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Bernice (John) Reuvers of Marshall, Minnesota.

   She was preceded in death by her parents, Garret and Annie; husband, Richard; siblings, Delmer, George, Alice, Nettie, Albert, and Henry.
