Maria Hortencia Topete Peña

HAWARDEN, IOWA - Maria Hortencia Topete Peña, 64, of Hawarden, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

   Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 14, 2023, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hawarden with Father Paul Nguyen celebrating the mass. Burial will be at Grace Hill Cemetery in Hawarden. A Prayer Service will be at 7:00 p.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Paul D. Bormann officiating. The Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden is assisting the family. The family requests no pictures are to be taken at the church.

   Maria Hortencia Topete Peña was born on June 13, 1958. She grew up and lived for a long time in the town of San Gregorio, Mixtlán Municipality, Jalisco, Mexico. She was a person very loved by her parents Consuelo Peña and Alfredo Topete and brothers, Pedro, Antonio, Hector, Alfredo, Tomas and Lourdes. She was the first daughter of the family.

   In Mexico she met her first husband with whom she had 8 children: Antonio, Jorge, Secundino, Martina, Lidya, Ramon, Sara and Jaime. Years later, she met the great love of her life, Mr. Guillermo Topete, whom she married on March 23, 1996 in Reno, Nevada USA; For a while they lived in California with their daughters Martina, Lidya and Sara. In 2000 they made the decision to move to Hawarden, Iowa; where she met the rest of her beloved children and lived very happily and content. She worked for a long time at Golden Crisp Premium Foods in Sioux Center, IA., where she was also well liked by her co-workers.

   When her husband Guillermo died in 2020, Maria decided to retire and share part of her time with her mother in Mexico, where she enjoyed the daily walks that she and her mother took through the forest and the long talks they had.

   Maria had fun with the jokes that her children Jorge and Lidya told her at all times, she enjoyed family gatherings with her children every Sunday and taking care of her grandchildren.

   Despite life's difficulties, she always had a word of encouragement for everyone and a kind smile, she always looked out for the well-being of all her children and knew how to get them ahead and give them the best example. Maria is and will be an excellent mother, an example of courage and integrity, she was a warrior until her last breath.

   She is survived by her mother Consuelo Pena; 5 sons, Antonio Topete, Jorge Topete, Secundino Topete, Ramon Topete and Jaime Topete; 3 daughters, Martina Topete, Lidya Jacobs, and Sara Topete; 4 brothers, Pedro, Antonio, Guero and Guerito Topete; 1 sister, Lourdes Topete; 36 grandchildren, Misael, Gladis, Lisbet, Leo, Tonita Topete, Adriana Star, Luci, Antonio, Iliana, Isabella Topete, Gabe, Isaac, Jovanni, Gietsemani Topete, Yahir, Lesly, Fabricio Topete, Arnulfo, Ana, Jose, Mia, Xavi Topete, Alexis, Christian, Grace Topete, Jake and Caydence Jacobs, Alexander, Brettny, Alia Topete, Elizabet, David, Jacqueline, Jason, Emmanuel, Allison Topete, 4 great grandchildren, Ximena Topete, Camden and Alexa Star and Ariana Topete.

   She is preceded in death by her father Alfredo Topete, her brother Tomas Topete, her grandson Christian Topete, Angel Topete and her loving husband Guillermo Topete.

HAWARDEN, IOWA - María Hortencia Topete Peña, de 64 años, de Hawarden, falleció el martes 10 de enero de 2023 en el Sanford USD Medical Center en Sioux Falls, Dakota del Sur.

    La misa de entierro cristiano será a las 10:30 a. m. el sábado 14 de enero de 2023 en la iglesia católica de St. Mary en Hawarden con el padre Paul Nguyen celebrando la misa. El entierro será en el cementerio Grace Hill en Hawarden. Un Servicio de Oración será a las 7:00 p.m. el viernes en la Iglesia Católica de St. Mary con el Padre Paul D. Bormann oficiando. La Funeraria Porter en Hawarden está ayudando a la familia. La familia solicita que no se tomen fotografías en la iglesia.

   Maria Hortencia Topete Peña 64, de Hawarden, murió el día martes 10 de enero del 2023 en el Hospital Sanford en Sioux Falls, Dakota del Sur. 

   Maria Hortencia Topete Peña nació el 13 de junio de 1958, creció y vivió por mucho tiempo en la localidad de San Gregorio, Municipio de Mixtlán, Jalisco, Mexico. Fue una persona muy amada por sus padres Consuelo Peña y Alfredo Topete y por sus hermanos, Pedro, Antonio, Alfredo, Hector, Tomas y Lourdes, fue la primera hija de la familia. 

   En México conoció a su primer esposo con el cual tuvo 8 hijos: Antonio, Jorge, Secundino, Martina, Lidya, Ramon, Sara y Jaime. Años después conoció al gran amor de su vida el Sr. Guillermo Topete con quien se casó el 23 de Marzo de 1996 en Reno, Nevada USA; por un tiempo vivieron en California en compañía de sus hijas Martina, Lidya y Sara. En el año 2000 toman la decisión de mudarse a Hawarden, Iowa; donde se reunió con el resto de sus amados hijos y vivió muy feliz y contenta. Trabajó por mucho tiempo en Golden Crisp Premium Foods en Sioux Center, IA., en donde también fue una persona muy querida por sus compañeras de trabajo. 

   Al morir su esposo Guillermo en 2020, Maria decide jubilarse y compartir parte de su tiempo al lado de su mamá en México, donde disfrutaba de las caminatas diarias que ella y su mamá hacían por el campo y de las largas pláticas que tenían. 

   Se divertía con las bromas que sus hijos Jorge y Lidya le decían a cada momento, disfrutaba de las reuniones familiares con sus hijos cada domingo y cuidar de sus nietos.

   A pesar de las dificultades de la vida, siempre tenía una palabra de ánimo para todos y una sonrisa amable, siempre vio por el bienestar de sus todos sus hijos y supo sacarlos adelante y les dio el mejor ejemplo. Maria es y será una excelente madre, ejemplo de valentía y entereza, fue una guerrera hasta su último aliento.

   Le sobreviven su mamá Consuelo Peña;  5 hijos, Antonio Topete, Jorge Topete, Secundino Topete, Ramon Topete y Jaime Topete; 3 hijas, Martina Topete, Lidya Jacobs, y Sara Topete; 4 hermanos, Pedro, Antonio, Alfredo y Tomas Topete; 1 hermana, Lourdes Topete; 37 nietos, Misael, Gladis, Lisbet, Leo, Tonita Topete, Adriana Star, Luci, Antonio, Iliana, Isabella Topete, Gabe, Isaac, Jovanni, Gietsemani Topete, Yahir, Lesly, Fabricio Topete, Arnulfo, Ana, Jose, Mia, Xavi Topete, Alexis, Christian, Grace Topete, Jake and Caydence Jacobs, Alexander, Brettny, Alia Topete, Elizabet, David, Jacqueline, Jason, Emmanuel, Allison Topete, 4 bisnietos, Camden y Alexa Star, Ariana Topete y Ximena Topete.

   Le precedieron en la muerte su papá Alfredo Topete, su hermano Tomas Topete, sus nietos Christian Topete, Angel Topete y su amado esposo Guillermo Topete.
