Hawarden, Iowa ~ Margaret I. Richter, 84, of Hawarden, died on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2018 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hawarden with Father Sunny Dominic officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will begin at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, with a Rosary at 6:30 p.m. followed by a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Margaret Irene Richter was born in Hawarden, Iowa, the daughter of Virgil and Dorothy (Goddard) Williams. She attended school in Hawarden and married John “Jack” Richter on November 29, 1951 in Le Mars, Iowa. They lived in Spokane, Washington for 7 years and then began farming south of Alcester, South Dakota. Margaret was a housewife and also worked at Custom Coils and Otis Radio.
They wintered in Texas for over 20 years and liked to go to music jams and play guitar and sing. They travelled to many different places and liked to square dance together. Margaret enjoyed doing crafts, reading puzzle books, and fishing. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hawarden.
Jack passed away on November 17, 1998.
Margaret is survived by her four daughters, Mary (Bob) Beeck of Hawarden, Barbara (Dennis) Haage of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Cheryl (Al) Schumacher of Huron, South Dakota, and Rhonda (Bernie) Koops of Sioux Center, Iowa; a sister, Virlene (Wendell) Schneider of Akron, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Janice Williams of Hawarden; 16 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Dorothy; husband, Jack; son, Richard; a brother, Richard Williams; and a great-granddaughter, Alexis Van Bochove.
